blah humbug: Official? Sundin WILL NOT waive his No-Trade-Clause

Howard Berger of Fan 590 has reported that Sundin, who is in Ottawa tonight (Feb 24th) and had dinner with Tucker and McCabe has officially announced that he WILL NOT waive his NTC. Btw, Barry (Mats' agent) is also in Ottawa tonight, Fletcher in Toronto.

'Blah' is about the best word that comes to mind,,,, 'humbug' maybe?

I'll settle for being disappointed about not seeing Toronto have an opportunity to get assets in return in Mats as a rental. It would have been an ideal situation to 'rent' and re-sign him considering the miserable era the Leafs are in the middle of but ultimately it is what it is.

Mats is one thing but the other four NTC's is a bugger. How is Cliff going to rebuild the team when the NTC club all sit down for dinner and perhaps all decide to stay put. So,,, we can now just continue to blame Ferguson I suppose for a team that will take three times as long to rebuild then should be needed due to all the remaining crap contracts.

On a positive note, all this madness trying to nullify or waive NTC’s might make GM’s wake up here forward or perhaps the league can look at making them even less easy to hand out so that it is not a bargaining factor during negotiations to begin with. (Any GM can become a sucker when it comes down to getting player X signed or not signed as long as the NTC is there.)

NO TRADE CLAUSES !!! I respect the fact that players are human, have families and don’t want to be moved around but this is a big business fueled by millions of common folks that don’t make $40,000 a year, where as many of these Pros make that much in just one game. (This is where folks, hockey fans, “the little guy”, the Leaf fans that know the game…. and business of it, get upset that Sundin didn’t take a small adventure to a new town to play some hockey for a couple months in return for assets to rebuild the team,,, PLEASE!) A rental scenario for Mats or unloading McCabe, Tucker, Kaberle, Kubina freely could have allowed Cliff, the Silver Fox, and his replacement this summer rebuild the team in a year or two if it wasn’t for all these No Trade Clauses.

Dear NHL, please start re-running your ‘new nhl’ commercials because I’m starting to get ancy. The Leafs aren’t making the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row!! Please broadcast the ‘new nhl’ propaganda as much as possible to all GM’s on Kirke’s list so we can find a GM that can actually manage under the current CBA/cap system. The days of buying your way out of trouble or into the playoffs are over. Can you rehire Fergie right now MLSE? So we can fire him again. It might make us fans feel better.

btw, I did look out my window a moment ago to see if the Sky was falling. It wasn’t but I still don’t feel right. If the Leafs get all inspired and make a run for the playoffs and finish 9th in the Eastern Conference I think I will scream.
