Don Waddell is a terrible GM. Trade Kovalchuk before Olypmic break! Published: February 3, 2010 - By Brent| Print Email
Is Don Waddell the worst GM in the league? If not now, he will be if Kovalchuk isn't traded before the Olympic break. Can you even imagine Kovalchuk getting badly injured at the Olympics? Then what? Atlanta perhaps makes it to the playoffs.. or not and then Kovalchuk hits free agency and that is that. That is bullshit. Who the hell would risk that... letting Kovy walk or get injured before turning him into some managable assets for the future!!?? Savard for nothing. Heatley for Hossa for spare parts and then piss around talking money with Ilya for what? He is as good as gone Don... pull the trigger and get it over with. I feel bad enough seeing Sourary injured right before Edmonton got their firesale going. Ok, nevermind. Trade completed last night. (2/4/2010). Kovalchuk and defenseman Anssi Samela from Atlanta traded for forward Niclas Bergfors, defenseman Johnny Oduya, prospect Patrice Cormier swapped 2010 2nd round draft picks. Not great.. but better than nothing considering a rental and better than no trade at all or risking injury. Atlanta also saves approx. $860,000 by making the trade now rather then March 3rd. Good.. done! Does it help Atlanta? No. Will it help them in the future? Possibly. Sure thing? No. Is Waddell still an idiot? Yes.
