What was the speculation?

Well, it was not a rumour per se, so get that clear. All we have is a statement from JFJ indicating that he would consider Forsberg, IF they had available cap space which at this point, they do not.

"We could be interested in Peter Forsberg if conditions are right," Leafs GM John Ferguson Jr said.

So besides the fact of no cap space among other factors = no forsberg, what do people think about him as a Leaf?

Mock lineup:
Steen - Sundin - Forsberg
Poni - Wellwood - Blake
Bell - Stajan - Tucker
Salmelainen - Pohl - Antropov

Looks good to me... have Kilger and Ling close by for grit, then shop Antropov out of town and fill his spot with Devereaux, Gamache, or Williams!

Forsberg would be perfect as a Leaf, he meets both of JFJ's requirements. He is old and he gets hurt all the time. I figure the Leaf would pay hom abou 5.5 mil per season.

The Leafs would pay at least 8mil a season for him......I mean he is good for what....30 games a season?

Last I heard he was heading to Ottawa. Likely sign in about a month. This is fine with me. One less oftinjured player JFJ can't sign.

True enough. Problem is he will likely put up career numbers in Ottawa.

That's ok. Ottawa can have Forsberg and Toronto can throw a nice offer sheet at Spezza next year.

As long as Spezza keeps maturing he can come to Toronto. He was a real dick in his younger days. The year playing under Paddock in the AHL helped that a lot.

TSN is reporting that Dallas has started talking to Forsberg now. Since he is only good for like 30-40 games, the team that gets him might as well wait until March to let him play.

Even better. Sign with Dallas so he can have his career year in the western conference.
